Employee Spotlight Denise Casas

Read below to learn more about Denise Casas, Accounting Clerk
with Lewis since 2001.

What is your role at Lewis and how long have you worked here?

Denise: I am an Accounting Clerk. October 22, 2024 will be 23 years here at Lewis.

How do you stay busy outside of work?

Denise: My husband Pascual and I live on one acre in San Bernardino. We have two dogs, two cats, and a plethora of hens who give us delicious fresh eggs. We like to hike, go on coffee dates, or do anything where we can just spend time together. My mom lives with us. She has early-stage dementia, so I spend a lot of time with her. I stay busy taking care of our animals, our flower and vegetable gardens, and my mom; plus, being as actively involved in our church as time allows.

What have been the biggest challenges/favorite parts?

Denise: One of my challenges is trying to better balance my time between my mom and my husband. I am blessed to have a super supportive and understanding husband as we care for my mom. Another challenge is being so far from the rest of my family in the Northeast (I was born and raised in New Hampshire).

How did you get involved with GriefShare?

Denise: GriefShare is a support group program for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group helps people learn to cope with grief and issues that come with it like guilt, regret, relationships, difficult emotions, and moving forward. It’s a ministry that is based on Christian principles, but people of all faiths and those who are not religious can attend. I went through the GriefShare program after my father died in December 2020. GriefShare helped me let go – of my anger, guilt, and blame which helped me let go of my dad. My husband and I are going to begin leading a GriefShare based in our church toward the end of September or early October.

How can others get involved?

Denise: GriefShare has many groups meeting in different communities. If anyone is interested in joining a group, the GriefShare website has locations listed in different communities or if anyone is interested in joining our group, we’ll be meeting at Generations Church of San Bernardino. It’ll be posted on the GriefShare website once a start date has been decided.
