Friendly Corporate World Introduction
Before the beginning of my second year in college, I was given the opportunity to apply for an internship at one of the nation’s largest privately held real estate development companies — The Lewis Group of Companies. When the offer was extended to be the 2017 Marketing Intern, I was thrilled to join the SoCal Corporate Marketing Team as I am a student who has a passion for marketing, graphic design, and new learning experiences. As a rising Sophomore in college, I too, have spent many hours in a classroom, but working in a real world marketing environment gives you the opportunity to gain experience for your future career!
My internship was so much more than an hourly pay.
I’m Amy Trinh and I am currently studying at Whittier College as a dual major in WSP Marketing and Digital Art with a plan to graduate in 2020 and the summer Marketing intern for 2017 at The Lewis Group of Companies.
As a summer Marketing Intern for The Lewis Group of Companies, I had the opportunity to research stories and work with other members of the marketing team to create blog content for the LewisCareers.com and LewisGroupOfCompanies.com, which includes everything from the written text to the compelling graphics. Behind the scenes, I take care of many intricate details from meta descriptions to optimizing multiple social media platforms. I never knew all the little yet important details that came with writing a blog post! My focus for the summer was to fulfill business objectives like writing/optimizing content, creating compelling graphics, and tracking success. I’m so excited to say that by the middle of my internship, I surpassed them all!
Throughout my internship, I received training and worked closely with the Digital Marketing Specialist. I created a whole library of graphics and blog content to be included in my portfolio, learned how to interpret analytics, drive organic website traffic, and added a bunch of new digital software to my virtual tool belt.
To get a better idea, here are some of the skills I have acquired and improved through this internship …
A Day in the Life
I’m enjoying myself here because I learn something new every day. I work closely with Rosemary Boone, my supervisor and the company’s Digital Marketing Specialist, but am also given ample time to work independently. In my personally decorated cubicle, I am given creative space to incorporate my own innovative ideas into blogs while gaining valuable feedback on content and graphics. This is a productive environment where hard work thrives, and I genuinely feel valued and appreciated for everything I do.

Most Importantly, Reflecting on Life Changing Experience
Mentor for Life
As the Marketing Intern, my close teammate and mentor has been Rosemary. Being well versed in Digital Marketing, she has been training me in WordPress, graphic design, Google Analytics, SEO, social media marketing, and even Facebook advertising. She is the heart and soul of this internship program and played a major role in making the internship productive, valuable, and memorable. Rosemary is always supportive of both my work and personal life and I know that she will continue to be my mentor and resources for the years to come.
Gateway to My Future
In the beginning of my college career, this opportunity to work in a real world marketing office has contributed to the fundamental foundation in preparing me to excel in future opportunities. Amongst the sea of recent college graduates and students searching for an internship or a job, I have become a competitive candidate through the skills gained from this internship.
Connect with me on LinkedIn
From experience, I can say that the individuals I have met through this internship genuinely will be excited to see you learn, grow, and succeed; they have even provided valuable advice to help me improve in my own career path.
Seize the Opportunity Yourself
I am immensely grateful to have been a part of the marketing team this summer at the Lewis Group of Companies as an intern, and I will be forever appreciative of this experience and the people I have met.
However, I wrote this blog not only to share about my experience but also to other future Lewis employees looking at opportunities or other career paths at Lewis.
