Employee Spotlight Chris Ruiz
Read below to learn about Chris Ruiz, Groundskeeper at Homecoming at Terra Vista.

What do you do at Lewis and what does a typical day look like?

Chris: I’m a groundskeeper at Homecoming Terra Vista. A typical day for me involves working both inside and outside. What we do ranges from ensuring that the community is as free of trash as possible, maintaining dog stations, upkeeping general cleanliness throughout, sprucing units after maintenance is done prepping them for the next move in or simply to tour, and any other tasks that may come up to assist the team in the office.

What drew you to working at Lewis?

Chris: Funny enough, Lewis has been part of my life for some time now. From 2006 to 2010, I lived here with my family. With the kind staff, help with work orders, and overall safety to play outside as a kid here, I only ever had good memories of this place. When we left in December of 2010, we moved to Anaheim and were planning on relocating to Eastvale in 2014. My parents had bought a house out there but was still being built during the time of our move, so we ended up at the Homecoming in Eastvale for a couple months and had a very similar experience as I did from 2006 to 2010. I’ve had a variety of jobs since 2018 but while making sandwiches at Sprouts before here, I knew I wanted to do something more physical and hands on. What better place to look to?

What has your career path looked like?

Chris: When starting here in January, like most new hires, I was very timid and almost nervous with all this new information being thrown my way. Before I knew it, I learned how to manage my tasks with ease, take charge whenever needed, and ensure that the team alongside me is always well-balanced with everything, lending them as well as the office staff a hand whenever needed.

How do you stay busy outside the office?

Chris: When I’m not on the property, I try to keep myself busy with a variety of things. I absolutely love spending time with my family, trying to get out into nature as much as I can, working on trying to get into the gym more now, going to record stores, antiquing, and what most of my time outside of work consists of is making music and playing shows when I can. I primarily make softer, new age-ambient music so I deal with a lot of synthesizers and wires but also love playing guitar as well. I try to balance everything nicely, both in terms of what I record and trying to have a good mixture of the two in the albums that come. Even if I’m not playing my music live, I absolutely love going to concerts too.

Any favorite moments with (hobby, interest, talent, etc.)?

Chris: With everyone having their own schedules nowadays, I appreciate every second I get when I’m with my family, especially when a bunch of us are at my grandma’s house; a lot of us have very similar humor so it’s always a time filled with laughter. With music, I think one of the greatest pay offs is being able to make people feel with it and being able to connect with them before or after shows.
