According to the Department of Numbers, nearly half of California’s population consists of people who rent their apartments or homes. As more and more people settle in the Golden State, the demand for rental units grows.
At Lewis Careers, we have two goals. The first is to meet California’s increasing demand for housing. The second is to help people just like you start their careers in real estate!
Are you ready to start something new? Do you want to begin your career in the bustling business of real estate?
Read on for 7 reasons why a leasing consultant position might be the perfect fit for you!
1. You Enjoy Making People Happy
If customer service is your passion, you may enjoy the role of being a Leasing Consultant! Leasing consultants are some of the first people new tenants talk to. It is a Leasing Consultant’s job to go over the parameters of the lease and answer any questions the tenants may have.
2. Your Communication Skills are Top-Notch
A Leasing Consultant does a lot of communicating! If you have strong communication skills, you will be able to navigate these resident meetings and conversations with ease. It will be up to you to take something complicated like a lease and make it understandable to tenants of all backgrounds and renting experiences.
The better you are at communicating, the more tenants will feel at ease when they need to come to you with other issues down the road. Having great tenant-property management relations at the beginning of the lease, in the middle, and when it’s time to renew, is a great way to increase tenant retention.
3. You Have a Background in Sales or upscale Customer Service
With our training, you don’t have to have strict qualifications coming in. However, if you have a background in sales, commissioned sales, or upscale customer service, you could translate that background into a career as a Leasing Consultant!
Many of the skills you need for business and retail will come in handy in apartment/real estate leasing. Sales, marketing, and customer relations are all important aspects of gaining and retaining tenants for Lewis communities.
4. You Have an Eye for Detail
Leases are complicated legal documents that need a scrutinizing eye to look over them before they are approved. It is important that the wording is clear and concise so that tenants can reasonably understand the policies they are agreeing to.
Plus, Leasing Consultants are also responsible for gathering information about applicants before letting them sign the lease. This tends to include information about their work, criminal background, and history as a tenant. Thankfully, the comprehensive training offered by Lewis prepares you for this detailed work.
Finally, we often rely on Leasing Consultants to respond to maintenance requests. That means that as a Leasing Consultant, you will need to send out the appropriate communication to the Lewis maintenance team. After the job is complete, it’s great to follow up with our residents to make sure that everything was addressed in an appropriate manner.
All of these things require the ability to see the forest and the trees! In other words, you will need to be able to look at the details and understand how they relate to the bigger picture.
5. You’re a True Go-Getter
If you’re considering making a new leap in your career path, that means that you’re a true go-getter! You’re ready to dive into something new and learn the skills that will open exciting and lucrative opportunities. We always welcome anyone with a can-do attitude and a desire to seize the day.
