During a recent visit to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), I was struck by something that stayed with me long after I left. While the medical staff provided exceptional care with genuine compassion, the waiting areas felt sparse and sterile. Children sat quietly with worried parents, surrounded by little more than medical equipment and hard chairs. In moments when families are already facing their greatest fears, the environment offered little comfort or distraction.
That’s when I realized I could make a difference.
Imagine being a scared child in an unfamiliar place, or a parent trying to comfort their little one while battling their own anxiety. A simple toy, book, or stuffed animal can transform those long, difficult hours. It can turn tears into smiles, fear into curiosity, and provide a moment of normalcy in an overwhelming situation.
These aren’t just toys – they’re sources of comfort, distraction, and hope when families need it most.
How You Can Help
I’m organizing a toy drive to bring warmth and joy to CHOC’s waiting rooms. We’re looking for:
- New, unwrapped toys suitable for various ages
- Books and coloring supplies
- Soft stuffed animals and comfort items
- Puzzles and quiet activities
- Art supplies for creative expression
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference in a child’s day.
Join My Mission
No child should face medical challenges without a little comfort and joy nearby. Together, we can ensure that CHOC’s young patients have something to smile about during their visits. If you’d like to contribute or learn more about drop-off locations and specific needs, please reach out. Let’s show these brave kids and their families that our community cares.
