This year’s second-quarter Northern California Credo winner is Rigoberto Hernandez, a Maintenance Technician at Evergreen Park. Stars & Stripes Dog Rescue was founded by Susan Aimes as a way to transform grief into purpose after the loss of her son, Airman Dustin Aimes, who served at Beale Air Force Base. Channeling that loss into a mission of healing, Susan built an organization that rescues at-risk shelter dogs and pairs them with veterans and active-duty military as psychiatric service dogs, at no cost, to help others carry the weight she knows so well. Our new Pawsitive Outlook Program extends that mission in partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at California State Prison–Sacramento, where incarcerated handlers train rescue dogs through a structured curriculum in obedience, behavior, and bonding — creating a full-circle story where dogs who needed saving become the ones who save.
